Research Associate (Protein Expression)

Summary of Role:
An exciting role has just become available at Codex DNA. We are seeking a curious and energetic Research Associate who will take ownership of automating & building out pipelines for protein synthesis, screening, and expression. This person will report to the Team Lead within the R&D group and will have an opportunity to contribute to the development of new products and building our business around our biopolymer-printer. The role will require a good understanding of molecular biology, protein analysis, and experimental design. A successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced and a highly collaborative start-up environment doing cutting-edge science. This person will work closely with personnel from the R&D, Engineering, and Biofoundry Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage and collaborate with team members at Codex DNA to bring research related initiatives towards new product development.
- Design, plan and execute wet lab experiments.
- Document experimental protocols and findings in a thorough lab notebook.
- Analyze data, complete research reports, and present data-supported conclusions in meetings.
- Demonstrate ownership & initiative, and follow-through in implementing projects and tasks.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance as needed.
- Keep up to date with scientific literature in the areas of strategic interest to Codex DNA.
- Serve as an example to Codex DNA’s Culture.
Required Qualifications:
- A solid sense of effective data presentation and quantitative data analysis.
- Experience with protein expression, purification, and analysis; experience with SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, ELISA, and chromatography are essential.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques including: PCR, Cloning, DNA purification, agarose-gel analysis, media preparation, buffer & media prep, sterile technique for propagating bacterial and yeast cultures, Sanger Sequencing, and NGS data analysis.
- Ability to design DNA constructs for protein expression applications.
- Experience with troubleshooting, generating new ideas and constant willingness to learn will be considered highly favorable characteristics for this position.
- Experience with liquid handling automation and coding are highly recommended.
Education Requirements:
- BS degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or a related discipline with 1+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
